02

Venetian plaster

Polished lime plaster built up in thin layers for depth and a soft sheen. Colours range from soft neutrals to metallic effects.

03

Silicone render

Self-coloured, breathable and water-repellent exterior render that keeps extensions and houses looking crisp for years, including over external wall insulation.

04

Limewashing

A natural, breathable mineral finish with gentle, cloud-like movement. It suits period homes and calm interiors.

    Questions & answers

Frequently asked questions about microcement, plaster and render

    Updated

    Which areas do you cover?

We work across Hertfordshire and the surrounding areas. For larger projects we can travel further, so ask us if you are just outside the county.

How much experience do you have?

Our team has 25 years’ experience in plastering and rendering, and we are recommended by K Rend, the render brand of Kilwaughter Minerals.[1]

Can microcement go over existing tiles?

Often, yes. If the tiles are sound and firmly bonded, we can usually fill the grout lines, prime them and apply microcement on top, which saves stripping the room back. We check every surface at the free survey before we confirm this in your quote.

Is microcement suitable for showers and wet rooms?

Yes, when it is installed as a full system. Microcement is a thin cement-based coating, and the sealer on top is what makes the surface water-resistant. In showers and wet rooms we also fit a waterproof tanking layer underneath, so both the finish and the structure behind it are protected. See our microcement bathrooms.

How long does a microcement floor take?

A typical room takes several days, because each coat has to dry before the next goes on. Floors can usually take light foot traffic about 24 to 48 hours after the final seal and are fully cured after around seven days. Exact times depend on the product system, temperature and humidity, and we set them out in your written quote.

What is the difference between Venetian plaster and polished plaster?

“Polished plaster” is the wider family of decorative plaster finishes. Venetian plaster is the traditional lime-based version: it is built up in thin layers and burnished with a steel trowel to give depth and a soft sheen. Metallic finishes, like our bronze feature walls, belong to the same family. We bring samples so you can compare them in your own light.

    Does silicone render need painting?

No. Silicone render is coloured all the way through, so it does not need painting. The silicone makes the render water-repellent while still letting the wall breathe, which helps it stay clean for longer. You can follow a render job stage by stage above.

What is external wall insulation, and do I need planning permission?

External wall insulation fixes insulation boards to the outside of your walls, then covers them with a mesh-reinforced base coat and a render finish. It suits solid-wall homes, and the Energy Saving Trust notes that homes built before 1920 are the most likely to have solid walls. Because the insulation goes on the outside, your rooms do not get any smaller.[2] It does change how the outside of the house looks, so planning permission may be needed. Check with your local council before work starts.[2]

    Do you give free quotes?

Yes. We visit, survey the job and give you a fixed written quote at no cost. Quotes are valid for 30 days, as set out in our terms and conditions. Request a quote.

How quickly will you reply to my enquiry?

We reply within one working day. The fastest way to reach us is WhatsApp, where you can also send photos of the job.
